East Gate Ltd (FSP721991), T/A The Mortgage Engineer, is a licensed Financial Advice Provider (FAP) in New Zealand. We provide advice on mortgages and personal insurance.
Nature and Scope of Advice
We can provide advice on:
Mortgages: residential, investment, refinancing, and restructuring
Insurance: life insurance, trauma/critical illness, income protection, medical cover, and mortgage protection
We do not provide advice on investments, KiwiSaver, or other financial products outside the scope listed above.
Our Duties
We are bound by the duties set out in the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 to:
Give priority to your interests
Exercise care, diligence, and skill
Ensure our advice is suitable for your situation
Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services
Fees and Expenses
For most mortgage and insurance advice, we are paid by commission from lenders or insurers.
In some circumstances, if a loan is repaid, refinanced, or cancelled within a set period (e.g., 24 months), we may be required to repay commission to the lender/insurer. In this case, we may charge you a fee to recover that cost. We will always discuss and agree on this with you in advance.
If any other fees or expenses apply, we will tell you before providing our advice or service.
Conflicts of Interest
We receive commissions from lenders and insurers when arranging mortgages and insurance. These commissions vary between providers. To ensure our advice is not influenced by this, we follow a robust process that puts your interests first.
No Liability

Please set out the nature of your complaint, and the resolution you are seeking. We will acknowledge receipt of this within 3 working days. We will then record your complaint in our Complaints Register and we will work with you to resolve your complaint. We may want to meet with you to better understand your issues. We will then investigate your complaint and provide a response to you within 14 working days of receiving your complaint. If we need more time to investigate your complaint, we’ll let you know.
If we cannot resolve your complaint, you may refer it to our approved dispute resolution scheme, Financial Services Complaints Ltd (FSCL), at no cost to you:
